London is home to many world-class museums. I've been to London many times and haven't been to the same museum twice! Below is the list of some of my favourite museums.

The Tate Britain, located in the City of Westminster, London, houses the UK's collection of British art from the 1500's as well as international modern art.

The Tate Modern is a modern art gallery located on the south bank of London. It was a former power station which was renovated. The architecture is beautiful. The exhibits are good, particularly if you enjoy modern art as there are many cutting edge works. The collection is impressive.
The Victoria and Albert Museum is an outstanding decorative arts and design museum - from fashion, furniture, jewelry to ceramics and sculpture. You can spend several hours wandering around this museum. They also have excellent special exhibits throughout the year. I recently heard that you can book a "behind the scenes" tour in advance where you are given the opportunity to see special items - such as original photographs by famous photographers. I highly recommend this museum.
The Courtauld Institute of Art is one of my favourite galleries in London. It is a relatively small art gallery but it's collection is exquisite. It has a beautiful collection of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings by some of the greatest artists, such as Van Gogh, Monet, Manet, Gauguin and Cezanne. It only takes between 1.5-2 hours to walk through and is definitely worth a visit.
The National Gallery, founded in 1824, houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900, including many masterpieces. It is located centrally, in Trafalgar Square and takes around 2 - 3 hours to walk through.
The Saatchi Gallery is a contemporary art gallery opened in 1985 by Charles Saatchi to exhibit his collection to the public. If you are a fan of contemporary art this is a highlight. It is located in Chelsea and admission is free.
The National Portrait Gallery houses a collection of historically important people - mainly British figures. They often have special exhibits that are worth checking out.
The London Film Museum is a museum dedicated to the British film industry. When we were there it had a special exhibit of the largest collection of original James Bond vehicles. It is a small museum and is great for an hour especially if you have kids.
